Note from Danielle

In my house, summer food is certainly it’s own ~vibe~. When the garden starts producing, it’s a salad festival over here. Snack dinners encouraged. Berries always on hand. And we use the air fryer instead of the oven to keep cool.

This translates into easy to make meals, served cold, or hot from the air fryer, fresh salads with herbs and greens from the garden, and simple berry related breakfasts and desserts.

Now in July 2026, I’ve done a little updating so the list includes some of the newer summer hits around here. But still, these are some of my favorite recipes to make in the heat. If you get even one idea from this list, then I’ve accomplished my mission!

What all my Favorite Summer Recipes have in common:

It’s summer. The days are looooong. Your brain power is drrrrrained. And deciding what’s for dinner is literally the last thing you wanna do. But someone is still asking! This list of recipes is curated for just those occasions.

All the recipes on this list have several things in common, but most importantly, they all do exceptionally well in the summertime. Here are some specifics about the recipes you’ll find here:

  • All of these recipes are either served cold, OR they are quick and easy cooking methods that don’t heat up the kitchen (like air fryer!)

  • Most recipes have some kind of inspiration from my garden, fresh cut herbs, or from in-season berries! Cause I’m very much a berry lover πŸ™‚

  • No matter the cooking method, each of these recipes is simple to make. No complicated cooking methods or spending hours in the kitchen. These are all great recipes for cooking beginners.

Favorite equipment for cooking in the Summer:

Whatever equipment you already have will most likely work perfectly fine, especially in the summer. The most important thing is a sharp knife for cutting your produce. More info here:

  • Misen Chef’s Knife (affiliate link!) – For me, cooking in the summer involves cutting up a lot of fresh produce for salads and other recipes. A sharp knife is a requirement!
  • cutting board – All that prep and chopping should be done on a wooden cutting board. I love my Greener Chef XL Bamboo Cutting Board (affiliate link!); use it for everything but raw meat.
  • Air Fryer – I use it almost daily, especially when I don’t want to heat up the whole kitchen. Currently I’m using this Cosori Turboblaze 6 Quart Air Fryer (affiliate link!), and it works great. This is a larger size which I recommend for households of two or more.

How to start meal planning:

The best way to meal plan is a little bit different for everyone: some use a mobile app, some write on a laminated sheet with dry erase marker, some simply keep a note with meals listed in their phone.

It depends on what works for you! The only way to know what works best for yourself is to start and give it a try. If it doesn’t work very well, try another method instead.
