Abbott to spin off Nutrition business

Abbott Park, Illinois – Abbott, a healthcare company, has announced its plans to spin off its Nutrition business unit into a separate, publicly-traded company by the end of this year. The new company will have around $8.5 billion in sales and will include popular brands like Ensure, Glucerna, Similac, Pediasure, and Pedialyte.

Robert B. Ford, chairman and CEO of Abbott, stated, “As we shape Abbott for the future, this separation will benefit both companies, positioning them for success in their respective markets. Our Nutrition business has a great opportunity to meet the growing demand for healthy nutrition, and as an independent company, it will be able to focus its resources more effectively on its priorities.”

The Nutrition business currently has approximately 16,000 employees and operates 14 manufacturing sites globally. In the first nine months of fiscal 2026, the Nutrition business saw sales of $6.4 billion, slightly lower than the previous year’s $6.5 billion in the same period.

Daniel Salvadori, executive vice president and group president of Established Pharmaceuticals and Nutritional Products at Abbott, will take on the role of CEO in the new company. Salvadori, who joined Abbott in 2014, has held various leadership positions within the company before his current role.

Abbott plans to separate the Nutrition business by distributing shares of the independent company to Abbott shareholders. After the separation is complete, Abbott shareholders will have ownership in both Abbott and the Nutrition company.
