Dive Insight:
Although Aldi is primarily known for its affordable grocery essentials, the retailer is now looking to position itself as a go-to destination for fresh, convenient meal solutions.
The new range of ready-made meals will be gradually introduced to stores starting next month and will be available nationwide by January.
The single-serve options, such as the chicken burrito bowl and beef brisket with white mac and cheese, can be quickly heated in the microwave in less than five minutes. On the other hand, the family-size choices, such as meat lover’s pizza bake and chicken and bacon mac and cheese, require oven heating.
Joan Kavanaugh, Vice President of National Buying at Aldi U.S., stated, “Our shoppers are seeking meals that are quick and budget-friendly without compromising on quality. That’s why we approached this category thoughtfully.”
These new meal offerings aim to help Aldi stay competitive with traditional grocery chains that typically offer a wide selection of fresh meal options, ranging from salad bars to grab-and-go selections. Major chains like Kroger and Albertsons also have their own lines of prepared foods.
This year marks Aldi’s 50th year of operation in the U.S., and the retailer is expanding rapidly, with plans to open 180 stores in 2026. Additionally, Aldi is increasingly emphasizing its own brand to establish consistency across its store brand offerings.
