Battle Creek, Michigan – WK Kellogg Co Partners with Soil Capital to Support Regenerative Wheat Farming in the UK
WK Kellogg Co has joined forces with Belgian agricultural services company Soil Capital to launch a groundbreaking wheat sourcing program aimed at assisting British farmers in adopting regenerative agricultural practices. The program will span over the next five years and will involve collaboration with 25 wheat farmers across nearly 4,000 hectares of UK farmland.
Through this partnership, growers will receive guidance, financial incentives, and access to cutting-edge tools that combine field data, soil measurements, and satellite monitoring to track selected indicators over time. The ultimate goal is to support the production of 100% locally sourced wheat for various Kellogg’s cereals, including the popular Special K brand.
One of the key objectives of the program is to enhance the resilience of the UK wheat supply chain and contribute to reducing emissions in the agricultural sector. Early feedback from participants has been positive, with notable improvements in soil health and farm resilience reported. For instance, direct drilling practices, which are vital for improving soil health, saw a significant increase across the farmed area and wheat area.
Dean O’Brien, the UK general manager of WK Kellogg Co, expressed his pride in supporting British farmers during challenging times. He emphasized the importance of farmers’ dedication in providing quality ingredients for Kellogg’s iconic cereals, which have been a staple on British breakfast tables for over a century.
Having collaborated with UK wheat farmers for more than a decade, Kellogg remains committed to sourcing over 20 thousand tonnes of UK wheat annually for its British cereals.
