Topo Chico Mineral Water Temporarily Unavailable in the U.S.
Topo Chico Mineral Water is currently unavailable in the U.S. as production of the Coca-Cola-owned brand has been paused for upgrades to its water source and manufacturing facilities in Mexico. The company aims to resume production later this year, prioritizing safety and quality.
While the mineral water is on hold, other Topo Chico drinks like flavored sparkling waters and hard seltzers remain available for purchase, unaffected by the production pause.
Topo Chico mineral water is expected to return to the U.S. later this year after a limited recall last summer due to potential contamination from pseudomonas. The facility upgrades are necessary to address issues with source wells that have slowed production.
Coca-Cola acquired Topo Chico in 2017 to diversify its beverage portfolio, subsequently partnering with Molson Coors to expand the brand into alcohol products. The company has introduced new offerings like sparkling water made with fruit juice and nonalcoholic mixers.
The flavored sparkling, seltzer, and mineral water category has seen significant growth as consumers shift away from sugary drinks. Sales in this segment reached $5.5 billion in 2025, reflecting a clear trend towards healthier beverage options.
In its most recent quarter, Coca-Cola reported a 4% growth in water sales, signaling positive momentum for brands beyond traditional soda categories. Incoming CEO Henrique Braun is poised to lead the company towards building more billion-dollar brands by scaling local and emerging products within its portfolio.
