The Save Mart Companies Introduces New Affordable Meat Line to Help Shoppers Cope with Rising Grocery Prices

The Save Mart Companies is set to launch a new private label line of minimally processed meats to assist customers in dealing with the increasing cost of groceries and economic uncertainty. This initiative is part of a series of measures aimed at providing value to shoppers, according to company executives.

The budget-friendly meat products, including beef, pork, and poultry, will start appearing in stores in mid-November, with an official rollout scheduled for December. Andy Comer, the vice president of marketing at the grocery chain, revealed that these meats will be free from artificial ingredients and will be packaged with the store’s banner name.

The Save Mart Companies operates 191 stores in California and Nevada under various banners, such as Save Mart, Lucky, and FoodMaxx. The company also manages Roth’s and Chuck’s Fresh Markets in Oregon and Washington, which are not part of the new program.

Andy Comer emphasized the goal of providing families with quality proteins at an affordable price to promote healthy eating habits. With meat costs on the rise, the company aims to address this challenge faced by both the business and its customers.

According to reports, meat prices have seen a significant increase in 2025, with inflation in the category reaching 8.5% annually in September. In comparison, overall grocery inflation stood at 2.7% that month, with prices rising by 3% across the board.

Zeb Early, the senior vice president of merchandising at The Save Mart Companies, highlighted the importance of offering cost-effective options to consumers, especially when meat products typically account for a significant portion of food budgets.

The company plans to expand its private label range in 2026, focusing on providing additional value to customers. Private label products currently make up a significant portion of the grocer’s sales, outperforming other brands in terms of popularity.

The introduction of the private label meat line is part of The Save Mart Companies’ “Right By You” savings program, which includes discounts on select items, free delivery for orders over $35 on their e-commerce platforms until the year-end, and exclusive digital coupons in November.

In addition to the savings program, The Save Mart Companies is offering a Thanksgiving meal promotion, providing enough food for 10 people at an affordable rate. The special offer will extend until Christmas, catering to customers during the festive season.

Andy Comer highlighted the advantage of The Save Mart Companies’ regional presence in swiftly implementing the savings initiative, leveraging local and supplier relationships to prioritize customer needs effectively.
