Walmart Opens First Owned-and-Operated Case-Ready Beef Facility in Olathe, Kansas

The newly opened case-ready beef facility in Olathe, Kansas, marks a significant milestone for Walmart as it continues to invest in U.S.-made and sourced goods. Plans for the facility were first announced back in 2023, with Walmart investing $257 million in the plant.

The facility spans over 300,000 square feet and is a key part of Walmart’s efforts to establish an Angus beef supply chain. Fresh beef will be processed and packaged into case-ready cuts, ready for retail, and then shipped directly to distribution centers to serve stores across the Midwest.

The beef sourced from Sustainable Beef LLC in North Platte, Nebraska, will create more than 600 jobs for the surrounding communities. John Laney, executive vice president of food at Walmart U.S., highlighted the importance of this facility in bringing more consistency, transparency, and value to customers.

This marks Walmart’s first fully owned and operated case-ready facility, emphasizing its commitment to improving supply chain transparency and resiliency. The retailer has also announced plans to open a third owned-and-operated milk-processing facility in 2026.

Walmart’s continued efforts to strengthen its supply chain and distribution network include the recent openings of a Sam’s Club distribution center in Florida and the purchase of a distribution center in Utah.

The opening of the beef facility aligns with Walmart’s pledge to invest $350 billion in U.S.-made products by 2031, showcasing its dedication to U.S. manufacturing.
