Duckhorn Portfolio Appoints New CEO
Just weeks after finalizing its acquisition of luxury winemaker Duckhorn Portfolio for nearly $2 billion, the new owner has announced a change in leadership.
Butterfly Equity, a private equity firm based in Los Angeles specializing in the food and beverage sector, has appointed Robert Hanson as the new CEO of Duckhorn Portfolio, effective February. Hanson will succeed Deirdre Mahlan, who will continue to advise the company after stepping down.
“The company is entering a new chapter with a strong foundation and a clear growth strategy that I am eager to further develop,” said Hanson in a statement.
Hanson brings a wealth of experience in luxury brands and the alcohol industry, having previously led Constellation Brands’ wine and spirits global portfolio. His appointment signifies Butterfly’s commitment to driving growth and innovation at Duckhorn, known for its brands such as Duckhorn Vineyards, Decoy, and Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards.
Butterfly Equity has been actively expanding its portfolio in the food and beverage space since its establishment in 2016, acquiring brands like Bolthouse Fresh Foods, Orgain, and Pete and Gerry’s.

Odwalla Returns with New Lineup of Juices and Smoothies
After a hiatus of nearly five years, the iconic beverage brand Odwalla is making a comeback with a fresh range of smoothies and juices.
Grupo Jemex, a Mexican beverage producer, is introducing a new lineup of Odwalla products in the U.S., including Mango, Strawberry-Banana, and Berries smoothies, as well as Orange, Orange-Guava-Ginger, and Green Juice blends.
These new offerings from Odwalla prioritize quality and healthy living, reflecting Grupo Jemex’s commitment to delivering trusted beverages for over six decades.
Odwalla’s rich history dates back to the 1980s when it was founded by a group of jazz musicians selling orange juice from a Volkswagon van. Acquired by Coca-Cola in 2001 and recently sold to Grupo Jemex, Odwalla’s return aligns with the shift towards wellness-focused beverages in the market.
As the beverage landscape evolves to meet consumer demand for healthier options, brands like Tropicana and Ocean Spray are also adapting their product offerings to cater to changing preferences.
