Perfect Brussels Sprouts With Garlic & Kabanos Sausage

by amazonskylers

Brussels sprouts can be a polarizing vegetable, with some people loving them and others not so much. The key to enjoying Brussels sprouts is in how they are prepared. When cooked well, these miniature cabbages can be delicious and flavorful.

Today, I want to share a simple and tasty recipe for pan-fried Brussels sprouts. This dish is perfect as a side for any meal or as a festive addition to your table.

Not only are Brussels sprouts delicious and visually appealing, but they are also packed with nutrients. These veggies are rich in fiber, which can help lower bad cholesterol levels. They also offer anti-cancer properties, protect DNA, and are high in vitamins K, A, folate, manganese, and choline, as well as omega-3 fatty acids.

I recommend using a variety of Brussels sprouts in different sizes to add visual interest to the dish. If Brussels sprouts are not in season, you can substitute them with cauliflower, broccoli, or cabbage. Kabanosi sausage adds a smoky flavor, but you can also use bacon, pancetta, or ham. For a vegetarian option, simply omit the meat and add chopped sun-dried tomatoes instead.

In today’s recipe, I want to show you a very simple and delicious way to prepare pan-fried Brussels sprouts. This recipe makes for a wonderful side dish, either for your dinner meal or for a festive table.

  • Cut away the hard tails from the Brussels sprouts and peal away the outer leaves or give them a good wash. Cut each sprout in half.

  • Heat coconut oil in a large skillet (frying pan) over medium-high heat. Add the Brussels sprouts, cut side down, and cook for 3 minutes each side. Remove to a plate.

  • Add the kabanosi sausage and pan-fry for 20-30 seconds, then add the garlic and lemon zest and cook together for another minute until fragrant and lightly browned.

  • Add back the Brussels sprouts, season with salt and drizzle with lemon juice. Stir through together for about 20-30 seconds and serve.
