Nestlé’s Nespresso moves beyond coffee for the first time with honey

by amazonskylers

Nespresso, the iconic coffee brand from Nestlé, is breaking new ground by introducing honey products for the first time in its history. The Nespresso Bloom line will now feature honey and honey syrup sourced from bees that pollinate coffee plants in Colombia, where Nespresso obtains some of its beans. This move not only enhances the brand’s commitment to sustainability but also reflects its dedication to incorporating regenerative agriculture practices.

Alfonso Gonzalez Loeschen, CEO of Nespresso North America, emphasized the brand’s focus on sustainability and innovation, stating, “Supporting sustainable practices in coffee farming has always been part of Nespresso’s DNA, and this pilot is a result of sustainability fueling innovation beyond the capsule. Our job is to protect the future of coffee while delivering a differentiated and superior coffee experience.”

In addition to supporting sustainability efforts, the introduction of Nespresso Bloom honey aligns with the growing trend of using honey as a sweetener in coffee. Despite a recent decline, honey consumption has been on the rise due to its superfood status. Consumers are increasingly turning to honey as a healthier alternative to traditional sweeteners.

The Nespresso Bloom honey products can be paired not only with coffee but also with pastries, yogurt, and whipped ricotta. The honey syrup is recommended for use in macchiatos, espresso martinis, and waffles, offering a floral flavor profile with hints of caramel and vanilla.

The Nespresso Bloom honey products will launch on August 7 at two Nespresso Boutiques in New York City and San Francisco, followed by nationwide availability on the Nespresso website two weeks later. Priced at $18 per bottle, these products are currently exclusive to the US market.

Nestlé has been working closely with Colombian farmers to produce the honey, with over 43 million bees contributing nearly 2,000 pounds of honey so far this year. Nespresso has a long-standing relationship with Colombian AAA farms and has partnered with The Rainforest Alliance to ensure sustainable coffee sourcing while uplifting farmer livelihoods and protecting the environment.

Since its inception in 1986, Nespresso has expanded from Europe to the US market, experiencing significant growth and market share gains. The brand’s success in North America continues to drive momentum and innovation in the coffee industry.
