Highlights:

  • The J.M. Smucker Co. recently inaugurated a new 900,000-square-foot facility in McCalla, Alabama for manufacturing Uncrustables sandwiches to meet the growing demand for the popular frozen sandwiches.
  • This $1.1 billion facility is expected to generate up to 750 new job opportunities.

Insights:

The new facility in McCalla joins existing manufacturing locations in Scottsville, Kentucky, and Longmont, Colorado dedicated to the Uncrustables brand, which was launched by J.M. Smucker in 1998.

President and CEO Mark Smucker expressed optimism about the brand’s growth, aiming to achieve $1 billion in annual sales by the end of fiscal year 2026.

J.M. Smucker has been revitalizing its product portfolio since 2018, with a focus on modernizing brands like Jif, Folgers, and Meow Mix to appeal to younger consumers.

Despite progress in certain areas, the company faces challenges such as inflation and decreased consumer spending in segments like dog snacks and sweet baked goods.

While expanding the Uncrustables brand, J.M. Smucker is also divesting assets like the recent sale of Voortman Cookies business for $305 million to Second Nature Brands.
