Latest News: Hershey Names Kirk Tanner as New CEO
Hershey announced on Tuesday that Kirk Tanner, the current CEO of Wendy’s, will be taking over as the new CEO of Hershey starting on August 18th. Tanner brings over three decades of experience in the CPG industry, having previously worked at PepsiCo in various senior roles, including CEO of PepsiCo Beverages North America.
Tanner will be stepping into the role previously held by Michele Buck, who led Hershey for eight years. Buck played a key role in transforming Hershey into a snacking powerhouse, diversifying the company’s portfolio beyond sweets. Under Buck’s leadership, Hershey made strategic acquisitions, such as the $1.6 billion purchase of SkinnyPop owner Amplify.
Despite Buck’s success, Tanner faces challenges in the snacking industry, which has seen declines as consumers seek healthier options. Hershey reported a 14% sales drop in the first quarter and is dealing with increased cocoa costs due to tariffs.
Before joining Hershey, Tanner led the transformation of PepsiCo’s beverage business, overseeing brands like Pure Leaf and bubly. His experience in snacks, beverages, M&A, and innovation makes him well-equipped to lead Hershey into the future.
As Hershey prepares for this leadership transition, Buck will continue to work closely with Tanner in a senior advisory capacity, ensuring a smooth handover of responsibilities.
