The Evolution of the Supply Chain Industry: Insights from PepsiCo SVP Darcy Arata

In the ever-evolving supply chain industry, companies are placing a strong emphasis on mentorship, employee development, and inclusivity. Darcy Arata, Senior Vice President of Field Supply Chain at PepsiCo, has witnessed this transformation firsthand.

Arata’s journey at PepsiCo began in 2001, fresh out of college. Today, she leads the field supply chain for PepsiCo Foods U.S., overseeing manufacturing and fulfillment operations for iconic brands like Frito-Lay, Quaker, and Sabra.

Over her 25-year career at PepsiCo, Arata has spearheaded productivity initiatives, embraced automation and digitalization, and prioritized employee engagement and retention. “My proudest moments at PepsiCo revolve around mentoring talent and driving tangible business results,” she shared.

Recently, Supply Chain Dive had the opportunity to chat with Arata about her career in the supply chain industry and the importance of fostering inclusivity. Here’s what she had to say:

SUPPLY CHAIN DIVE: What drew you to a career in the supply chain industry and who supported you along the way?

DARCY ARATA: My interest in supply chain management was sparked during a college operations management class. The strategic problem-solving and continuous improvement aspects resonated with me. While my early support system was limited, I found invaluable mentors within the industry who guided me through my career.

How is the industry changing in terms of diversity and training?

The supply chain industry has made significant strides in promoting inclusivity. Companies now offer formal mentorship programs, training opportunities, and employee resource groups to foster diversity and connection.

What steps can industry leaders take to drive inclusivity in the workplace?

Leaders play a crucial role in creating inclusive cultures by listening to employees, addressing barriers, and providing support. By understanding and meeting the needs of their workforce, leaders can cultivate a more inclusive and empowering work environment.

If you could offer your younger self career advice, what would it be?

I would advise myself to embrace risk-taking earlier in my career. Some of my most valuable lessons have stemmed from failures, and I believe stepping out of my comfort zone sooner would have accelerated my growth.
