JM Smucker splits supply chain, manufacturing functions

The J.M. Smucker Co. has announced a major restructuring of its supply chain and manufacturing divisions, as detailed in a press release on Feb. 27. This decision involves separating these two critical functions into distinct organizations.

As part of this strategic move, Bryan Hutson, who currently holds the position of SVP of information services, will now also oversee the company’s supply chain operations. Meanwhile, Randy Day, who previously managed both supply chain and manufacturing, will focus solely on manufacturing as the SVP of operations.

With close to 25 years of experience at Smucker, Hutson has been serving as SVP of information services since 2020, as indicated on his LinkedIn profile.

Day, with over 30 years at the company according to LinkedIn, previously led the combined supply chain and manufacturing unit before the restructuring.

The primary objective behind this change is to enhance oversight and operational efficiency by segregating the supply chain and manufacturing functions, as highlighted in the press release.

“In addition, we are evolving the leadership structure of our supply chain and manufacturing organizations to ensure that we remain positioned to deliver best-in-class execution across our portfolio of brands,” stated President and CEO Mark Smucker in the release.

At the close of 2024, the food product maker operated 21 manufacturing and supply chain facilities in the U.S. and Canada, according to a presentation from December’s investor day. This network includes a state-of-the-art 900,000-square-foot Uncrustables sandwich manufacturing plant inaugurated in McCalla, Alabama, in November 2024.
